Meeting Update 30th September 2016

The Governing Body had their first meeting of the academic year on 30 September, and its specific purpose was to set the 2016/2017 strategy.

The following were agreed as key priorities for the Governing Body:

a. Future of Telferscot - including expansion and academisation: Expansion refers to (i) plans for a second school site on New Park Road and (ii) the proposed building of the new Autistic Resources Base (where the school kitchen was previously located). Both of these projects are ongoing, and the Governing Body will report when it has further information. The decision on whether to become an academy remains an important issue facing Telferscot, and the Governing Body will continue to consider the potential benefits, and how this might impact Telferscot.

b. Maintaining Outstanding Standards: Governors wish to ensure that Telferscot continues to deliver ‘Outstanding’ educational standards, and will work with the Senior Leadership Team to find ways in which Telferscot can move ‘beyond outstanding’.

At the meeting the Governing Body also discussed repairs to be made to the school roof as a matter of urgency following some significant leaks in the Spring and Summer terms. These works will take place after the tendering process and contractors have been appointed.

Elections for the two parent Governor vacancies will be taking place on Thursday 20 October, and we hope that parents will take this opportunity to vote for the candidates that they believe will assist the Governing Body in its role as critical friend and strategic partner to the school.

Governors are looking forward to another successful year at Telferscot.
