The Full Governing Body met on 20 November 2017 for our second meeting of the academic year.
The FGB heard that one of our Co-Opted Governors, James O’Dwyer, had decided to resign from the Governing Body due to increasing work commitments. James has been a Governor since March 2015, and the Governing Body are grateful for his time and contribution over the last few years. Following James’ resignation, the Full Governing Body now has two Co-opted Governor vacancies, and candidates are actively being sourced from our local community.
At the meeting, the Governing Body discussed reports from the Headteacher; the Resources Committee, which considers financial, staff and premises issues; and the Inclusion Committee, which considers Safeguarding and Special Educational Needs.
The Standards Committee had not met since the Chair’s Briefing earlier in the Autumn term. However, further data was available on attainment and progress since the Chair’s Briefing, therefore a report had been prepared by Assistant Heads, David Cooper and Nick Godfrey. This report was considered within the FGB meeting, and Governors were pleased to learn that Telferscot children overall continue to attain high standards of learning.
Governors were updated by Jenny Martin regarding the TOK (The Old Kitchen), which is due to be completed at Easter, and will provide additional classroom space for breakout groups, one to one tuition and Extended Clubs. Governors noted the completion of the wonderful new library, and arrangements are underway for an official opening to take place this term.
Finally, Governors congratulated the Senior Leadership Team and staff on Telferscot being ranked 68th in the Sunday Times League Table of schools, based on our 2016 SATs results.
The Full Governing Body are due to meet next on 12 March 2017. I look forward to updating you then, in the meantime, I wish everyone an enjoyable end to the Autumn term and a restful break.
