What do the Governors do?
Telferscot has a Governing Body consisting of 17 governors at full strength. It is the first point of accountability for the school's management. Working with the school's leadership, it sets the strategic direction for the school, monitors how well the school is doing, and keeps an eye on its finances.
Can you find this in our school?
The Governing Body was reconstituted on 9 March 2015. There are now four governors elected by the school's parents, one is appointed by the local authority, one is elected by staff, and the Headteacher is also a Governor. In addition the Governing Body can appoint up to ten Co-opted governors. At present we have nine Co-opted Governors, including one from the support staff. Further appointments will be made to recruit the necessary skills to the governing body. Please contact the PA to the Governing Body regarding vacancies.
The full Governing Body meets formally five times a year. It has three full time committees: Standards (which looks at pupil progress class by class), Resources (which considers financial, staff and premises matters) and Inclusion (which is responsible for Special Educational Needs and Safeguarding). Resources and Inclusion both meet three or more times a year. Standards meet twice a year, and in addition to the committee meetings a separate ‘Chair’s Briefing’ is held with the Chair and Assistant Heads.

To find out more about the Governing Body activities you can read our meeting updates where you can also see which Governors attended.
The Governors welcome feedback about how the school is performing, good or bad. The Governors cannot take up issues relating to an individual child, but are concerned with anything that reflects on the general running of the school. Please contact us on the email address given below.
We hope that you do not have any complaints about the school, or that if you do, you can resolve them with the school staff. But if things don't work out the Governors can also hear formal complaints.
You can email the Governors on firstname.lastname@example.org
